Introduction to Ekonomyz

by Dwight Jeffress, Updated Jul 1, 2019

Welcome readers to "Ekonomyz" (Economies), a blog on Economics, my take, my interpretation, my opinions, and my observations of economic history and the economies of today.

Now, as my readers, I seek to be honest with you from the beginning.  I am not an economist.  I only took Microeconomics and Macroeconomics at university and some introductory classes in business administration.  So, I want you to understand, I do not claim to be an "expert" in economics.  I don't claim to understand every facet.  I am not sought by major media outlets to appear as a talking head giving my "expert opinion" on current economic matters.  I am a mere novice.  A simple child among masters and giants.  I hope to pull back that large cover the book historical economics and explore all of its terms, its debates, its foundational attributes as well as its various factions.  Rest assured I am no Thomas Picketty.

I am a mere common citizen, a small, and insignificant gear in a great machine that has run daily for centuries on end.  I go through the motions, albeit with struggle and restlessness.  I see the workings, I see the signs, but I am no one special.  I don't see markers or trends the would suggest I have some special insight.

I am though, a voracious and energetic student.  I am an eager learner.  I am a child amidst towers of books containing information, history and the complexities of the economic world.  I seek to learn.  I want intellectually digest the information I take in from reading articles, from watching videos from delving into vast books full of data, history, and formulation of concepts and ideas.

My focus will be on economic models, such as Laissez-faire capitalism, the myriad of regulated forms of capitalism, various incarnations of socialism, communism and many other facets of economic systems utilized in today's world.  I will also be commenting on and looking into current events concerning economics.  In addition to this, I will note government legislation, past, present, and future, that affect the economy.

My search is to read past the headlines, to see past the talking heads and their, at times complex jargon and terms. I will also give my commentary on nvarious new articles dealing with economics.  My end goal is to learn, to inform myself.  Perhaps, in the end, I can share what I have learned with those who also find themselves lost in the world of economics.  To understand how these systems work.

I also hope to debunk many of the misconceptions and misinformation that is widely distributed by leaders, by economists, the media, as well by both disciples and zealots who preach the tenets of these various systems that exist today.  I hope to communicate to my readers an understandable mode of economics.

The format of this blog will be as such, within the time constraints and ability that I have.  I hope to post monthly.  The frequency is a bit long, more so that I would like. Considering that I will be updating an additional nine other blogs, update frequency will be challenging and a struggle.  Reality may find itself to be more so, depending on my ability to publish so many articles within a time span.  Thus, the schedule of issuing blogs may end up being sporadic, if not chaotic, and perhaps only at times that I seek to share subject matter that is of current interest.

I will have bouts of spontaneous writing output.  Somedays it may be a few sentences, others will be extensive multi-part posts extending perhaps for six months.

I welcome you to join me on this journey.  I will get in my writing quite opinionated, I may get irate, but I will seek to use my words to communicate, to educate and to challenge, not only myself, but my readers as well.

Welcome my friends to Ekonmyz.  Walk this journey with me.  As we learn together.  With this knowldege, we can make this world a better place.  A better place for everyone to live and prosper in.

Thank you for reading.
